SCAD Narrative project
ILLUSTRATION / VISUAL DESIGN
A Savannah College of Art and Design typography project to create "books" based on different groups of extracted words from the poem, "Renascence" by Edna St. Vincent Millay. When it came to brainstorming ideas for narratives based on the themes of the poem, I thought of the idea of time and how we perceive and define it in comparison to the natural world.
APPROACH
In these books, I wanted to experiment with interactivity and include something about the piece that could be changed by those who use it, to represent the narrator's subjective and evolving understanding of her journey through time.
NARRATIVE #1
After constructing the mini books, I created two larger narrative pieces based on the themes. Narrative #1 explored the perspective of time from a vivid dream, or waking up and falling asleep when you experience time as an illusion that is hard to calculate.
NARRATIVE #2
Narrative #2 explored a different way to understand and interact with time, and experience it from a non-linear perspective. I used the spiral shape to represent its ongoing influence, reminiscent of the world spinning continuously.
