Textures of Toronto
Textures of Toronto is a city-wide multicultural festival that provides an opportunity for groups from different countries to promote the public awareness, appreciation and enjoyment of their cultures.
APPROACH
I wanted to focus on a paper quilt design as a way to celebrate multiculturalism, promote authenticity in culture and create a union of different ethnic and cultural traditions. The quilt squares are created entirely using found imagery, textures, patterns, and other printed collateral that I could find in the different cultural neighbourhoods in Toronto. Quilts have traditionally been used to convey a union of different values of people, heritage, family, history and the union of expression, and bring imagery together to create new meaning.
